Maharaja Ranjit Singh was said to be a keen preserver of sacred relics that had ties to the Sikh Guru; one of which was no other than Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s plume, which he paid daily respect to in his palace at the Lahore Fort.

Ranjit Singh wasted no hesitation in seeking out those who had met the Guru; eager to soak in the magnificence of their recollections

It is against this backdrop that in the Royal Khalsa Darbar, we can envisage an elderly Sikh standing humbly before an entire court that stands in awe.  In his presence are aristocrats, royalty, warriors and many others; including the Maharaja himself, head bowed in servitude.  Not a sound can be heard from anyone in the congregation, with each person straining their ears to listen to the account of how this frail old man was fortunate to have received the darshan (blessing) of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
